All about the people behind Living Spirit

Retreats represent sacred time and space set aside from everyday life, in order to help you rediscover spiritual inspiration and renewal. A retreat can be as simple as giving yourself much needed rest, relaxation and time to reflect, such that you can find a deeper sense of purpose in life or perhaps find healing and resolution to challenges you are facing.

A retreat can also be taken as an opportunity for concentrated work and discipline without distractions, whether this be creative work such as writing or art, or the inner work of meditation, prayer, spiritual study and practice. Setting aside a dedicated time of retreat can enable you to find greater depth and vitality in your creative and spiritual life.

Living Spirit offers several choices of retreat, which provide guests with different levels of support or independence.

Our aim is to provide
sanctuary space that
meets your spiritual
needs, so please do get in touch
if you have any questions or to discuss
more fully what you are looking for.
The following offers a basic introduction
to what we can provide…

Personal Retreats

The main focus of our work at Living Spirit is to provide sanctuary space for individuals to make a personal retreat - with choices as to the level of guidance, support or independence.

Please click on the tabs above to find out more about the different kinds of personal retreat you can make with Living Spirit.

Details of catering, self-catering and ‘hermitage-style’ options and prices are set out below.

Guided Retreats

A guided retreat can include initial planning by email or phone to focus the purpose and structure of your retreat time, followed by an initial meeting on your arrival at the retreat.

For each day of your stay you can then meet with your guide - this is usually for an hour, but it is possible to arrange (in advance) more than one meeting in a day if you want extra support. On the last day of your retreat, a final meeting will help you plan your return home and how best to implement and integrate what you have learned during your retreat time. A final follow up phone call or email, after your return home, completes the process. (Although ongoing spiritual accompaniment or soul friendship can be arranged separately).

We are sorry that guided retreats will be temporarily unavailable while we find a new Devon retreat base.

Self Guided Retreats

Self guided retreats are suitable for mature and self motivated spiritual seekers, with an established personal form of spiritual practice. Self guided retreats can also be appropriate for creative work such as writing or art.

Please contact us to discuss your purpose for a self guided retreat. We do ask for a reference and emergency contact details before you enter retreat. Once you arrive at the retreat centre we will simply make you welcome, show you around and then leave you in peace until it's time to say farewell.
(If you find during your self guided retreat that you would like to meet with a guide, please do ask and we will do our best to respond. However we cannot guarantee that someone will always be available if this service has not been requested in advance.)

‘Holy Days’

The origins of ‘holidays’ came from time set aside from everyday work for prayer, Divine worship and pilgrimage on the Holy Days and Saints days in the Church year.

Many of us still take holidays when we are really seeking a deeper rest or time of healing, such as after a bereavement, relationship breakdown or redundancy - or when simply feeling worn down or even burnt out and despairing in the face of daily survival.
… a simple
kind of
sanctuary
Sometimes you may need a break in a beautiful, inspiring and supportive place... just to rest, walk, read and relax. You may not be looking for structure or focus but simply 'space to be'…

At Living Spirit we welcome individuals, couples and families looking for this simple kind of sanctuary.

Catered, Self-catered and ‘Hermitage' Retreats’

The three forms of retreat above can each be made in either a catered, self-catered or 'hermitage style'. We specialise in 'hermitage' retreats where guests can have their own self contained cottage (while also being able to enjoy shared areas and facilities).

Please click on the tabs above for details of which retreats are available and for prices.
